For Counselors & Educators

  • Elementary Student Worksheet

For individuals looking to utilize Tilley Finds Her Way, in an educational setting. We have created a worksheet for elementary school-aged students to answer questions about the book to enhance comprehension and to encourage creative engagement with Tilley.

You can download the file here.

  • Why Birds?

Did you know that certain species of birds have social behaviors similar to humans? Through the years, people have observed how birds live and interact with each other and how they inspire and encourage humans.

Cardinal—In Christianity, a cardinal is sometimes viewed as a messenger from God bringing comfort to someone who is sad or hurting.

Magpie—These birds are smart and adaptable and strong-willed.

Mourning Dove—Their cooing sound reminds us to mourn what is in the past but look with hope to what lies ahead.

Crows—They observe their environment and watch over other crows.

Woodpecker—The sound of their constant pecking reminds us to persist in the face of difficulty.

Geese—Baby geese follow the first moving animal they see, even if it’s not their mother.

Dove—In Christianity, the dove is seen as a symbol of peace.

Grosbeak—These birds teach us about taking good care of family.

Robins—Robins settle their squabbles with their cheery songs, encouraging us to sing our own unique songs.

Oriole—Orioles whistle songs to welcome a new day.

  • Hands On Activities

A bird house that Lynne used in multiple counseling sessions was the original inspiration for Tilley. If you want to build your own birdhouse, there are many great and simple kits available online, like here, or here.

If you just want to decorate (or color), you can download this sheet and design your very own bird house.
